Last week, we skyped with a 2nd grade class in Dubai. We both read the book "Nana in the City" before our Skype call. Then we asked and answered questions about the book. A huge thanks to Mrs. Kahook for arranging such a fun technology activity related to literature. It was an amazing learning experience for all!

Spotlight on RETELLING: Being able to retell a story is very important in 2nd grade. It shows that we understand what we read and that we are able to remember key elements of the story. Here is a nice anchor chart to help us retell. Try using it at home!
We had Reader's Workshop in the Learning Commons today!

On Septemeber 21st, we celebrated International Peace Day
Our day ended with a flower Mandela peace creation sending our message out to the world. Mrs. Jenkins led this lovely event. In closing, the children were encouraged bring home a flower filled with their message of peace to help spread this throughout our world.
Responsive Classroom
We start each day by having a "Morning Meeting." There are four components to a morning meeting: 1) Greeting 2) Sharing 3) Group Activity 4) Morning MessageThere are several purposes for having a morning meeting: -Sets a tone for respectful and engaged learning in a climate of trust
-Builds and enhances connections among students and between students and teachers
-Merges academic, social, and emotional learning
-Motivates students by addressing the human need to feel a sense of significance and belonging, and to have fun
-Through the repetition of many ordinary moments of respectful interaction, enables some extraordinary moments
